Screaming skull trailer

The Screaming Skull is classic bad movie with the usual elements like bad acting, horrible special effects and stupid plot. Something that happens in the intro (and in a somewhat different version in this trailer) is just so hillarious that it makes the movie a must-see (at least for fans of bad cinema!).

The event in question is the beginning where a voiceover is saying:

"The Screaming Skull is a motion picture that reaches its climax in shocking horror. Its impact is so terrifying that it may have an unforeseen effect. It may kill you! Therefore, the producers feel it necessary to provide free burial services to anyone who dies of fright, while seeing The Screaming Skull!"

I wonder if they had to pay for any funerals... in fact, if some person didn't want to or could pay for the funeral for a dead relative why not make up a lie that the person died when watching The Screaming Skull and get free funeral money!

Listen!

As one of the comments on youtube says, bigger chance of dieing from laughter than fright watching this. MST3k even made a parody of it!

Date: 1997
Label: Flying Rhino Records
Style: Goa trance
Size: 155MB
Qiality: 320kbps

Tracklist:
1. Cor! (Unreleased Edit)
2. Thunder Thighs
3. Conflict
4. Octofunk
5. Ring Of Fire
6. Klunk
7. Rock Bitch
8. Atomic Armadillo (The Fluffening)

This album contains lots of acid infested sounds and some funny humour with clever use of samples. I consider all 8 tracks to be perfect or very good. The last track is special because it starts out as an uptempo song, but midway through changes into a psychedelic ambient tune (same melodes at lower speed) that usually finish all goa trance albums.

Green Nuns of the Revolution only released one album and a few eps. Still what they created was near to perfect goa trance that is still as good today.

Some of their great songs that didn't make it into this album:

Green Nunions:

Tufáan - Probe (Green Nuns Of The Revolution Remix):

This is a different kind of goa trance album that is more built on atmosphere than twisty sounds and complex melodies. First half of the album is trancey and second half is more towards ambient. Overall this is a very nice album. Apart from the first song, the dub/ambient songs is a little better than the other goa/trance songs imo.

Monterey Pop Festival Clips (part 1)

A few clips from the 3 day Monterey Pop Festival in Monterey, California, from the documentery Monterey Pop Festival by D.A Pennebaker. A very nice docu with excellent performences by some of the best 60s groups. Most famous for being the breakthrough festival in the US for Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Ravi Shankar and Janis Joplin.

This festival sometimes is said to be the start of Summer of love (67-69). Here's some nice clips:

Country Joe & the Fish - Not so Sweet Martha Lorraine (live)

Al Kooper & The Blues Project - Wake me, shake me

More at another time!

Sri Hari - Rising Sign (Album/1995) - Hare krishna based goa trance

Artist: Sri Hari
Album: Rising Sign
Type: Album
Label: Bhaktivedanta Book Trust

Size: 102mb

Tracklist:
1. Gaura Nitai (6:40)
2. Basically (8:13)

5. Lecture Into Sound (11:11)
6. Brahman (8:43)
7. Bande Krishna (7:14)
8. The Great Mantra (6:03)

This is a project by Ian Ion, most famous from Koxbox and Saiko-Pod, which blends goa trance with krishna worship. Or as discogs put it:

This is what discogs write:
The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT), based in Sweden, is the largest publisher of books on Vaishnavism and Bhakti-Yoga, or devotional service to Krishna.

Originally publishing CDs with devotional songs, the record label of BBT also started releasing a couple of (partly Krishna themed) goa & trance records when Harikesa Swami (Robert Campagnola, a former initiating spiritual master of ISKCon) was chairman and trustee of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust International.

However, these activities were not endorsed by the Governing Body Commission (GBC) of the ISKCon (International Society for Krishna Consciousness). In a letter to their former guru Harikesa Swami one of his disciples writes "Why did you not stop making your 'techno-music' even though the GBC had ordered you many times to stop making such music, which some of your godbrothers described as sounding like 'an Elephant having a miscarriage'?"

Not exactly heavy psychedelic, but the album has a nice feeling all over with clean melodies and some chanting going on in most songs. This is how goa trance made by hare krishnas sounds like!

So what is this blog about!

This blog is a small project I have where I will post stuff I find interesting. It will focus on the psychedelic world, with posts about psychedelic music but it will also contain weird movies or just general thoughts I have.

I hope to spread a good vibe with nice psychedelic music from the past and today. Have a nice time all the time!
